In creating a new hero image for the Fusion 360 product centre, Torpedo were tasked with creating a visual that would have an instant impact on visitors to the page, and that has the wow factor. The image should be representative of the end-to-end capability of Fusion 360, where users can go from product design to manufacture using a single software.
We kicked off the process of creating the new hero with an exploration phase, where we reviewed a range of imagery and design styles that would work to suit the needs of the image. From there were created a set of concepts, each using base images and design elements such as icons, UI, and colour palettes. We also incorporated an existing 3D model which appeared to extend from the screen into the physical environment.
Upon sharing the concepts with the client, a couple of favourites were chosen. We used the two selected to develop the concepts even further – incorporating an updated 3D model provided by the Fusion 360 team. To deliver the impact the Fusion 360 team were looking for, we made the 3D model the most eye-catching element, giving it prime position an making enhancements to textures, colours, and lighting.
We also applied an outline and drop shadow design style to portray the model’s connection between the desktop screen and the real world.
To bridge together the end-to-end nature of Fusion 360 we combined a foreground and a background image. In the foreground we see the product design phase across multiple devices, whilst in the background we see the manufacturing process.
